How I Became A Ghost Hunter!
I have been very interested in ghost hunting, spirits, and all things paranormal since my first experience with a ghost at the ripe old age of 10. I was at a sleepover with 3 other girls. The girl's house that we were staying at was a very old farmhouse. We were all avid fans of things that go bump in the night, played with an Ouija board, and were always sharing ghost stories.
That night the girl that I was staying over night with and her older sister told us about the "ghost" in the house. The house was supposed to be haunted. They also told us that the rumors were that someone had been killed or committed suicide in the house.
We were all upstairs in a loft type room and the girls told us stories of the things that they had heard in the past. So, when I was awakened by sounds of creaking and groaning steps, I chalked it up to an overactive imagination, or figured the house was settling as old houses will do..
Little did I know that I was about to have the experience of my young life. I was not the only one awake and 3 of us were holding each other for courage and listening for more sounds. We then heard something that sounded like someone coming up the steps. By this time, I was ready to head for home and the safety of my own bed! Of course, that was not possible. The old house was creaking like it was going to come apart. There was a wind blowing but nothing that would make the house creak like it was.
We woke up the others and were all huddled under the blankets hoping that the night would be over soon. We would hear what sounded like activity on the steps then it would stop for a few minutes only to start up again. Then we all saw a white mist that was filtering into the room from the stairs. It further came together and resembled a woman in a long flowing nightgown. She had very long hair and looked frightened herself from what we could tell. All of us were seeing this by this point!
The girls that lived there, sort of smirked and said something along the lines of I told you so!
The woman floated across the room and went into an old wardrobe that was at the other side of the room. The steps on the stairs were getting louder by then. It sounded like someone was pounding the stairs and the walls at the same time. The door to the room rattled then a dark shadowy figure that was like a dark murky mist then came through the door and the room got very cold at the same time. He then went into the wardrobe following the woman.
Needless to say none of us got any sleep that night! I refused to ever spend the night at that house again! I had chill bumps and my hair felt like it was standing on end. Later, we compared notes and had all seen the mists and heard the noises, but only 3 of us had seen the figures of the man and woman in the mist.
The girls told us that they had seen and heard this many times. They had not told anyone before because they thought no one would believe them and of course none of us did at first! That made a believer out of me! We found out later that a woman and man had reportedly been found dead in the house. The woman was supposedly hanged, the man shot, according to reports it was treated as a murder/suicide.
As I found out later, this was only the beginning of my journey in ghost hunting, dealing with spirits, and other things paranormal. I realized later that I had psychic gifts and would frequently see the dead as well as other things that I wanted no part of! I have of course over the years learned to live with this.
I know I am one of many who have experienced things like this and will write more of my experiences later in my blog. I would like to hear from other ghost hunters, or those interested in the paranormal to learn of their experiences.
